From: Subject: My first encounter with D Smart Date: Tuesday, May 09, 2000 1:03 AM I would like to post my own story about my initial contact with mr Smart. It began when I arrived at Smart's home page and began examining some of the screenshots of Battlecruiser Millenium. I thought most of them looked quite good as with the game, but I had some opinions on some of the heavily stretched textures and bump mapping effects. I went to the discussion forums and noted that none of the past posts bore any kind of critisism. My own experiences would later teach me why. Ignorant as for what man Derek really is I raised my opinions in the Supreme Commander's very own discussion forum. Obviously some of the strange mental features Mr Smart possesses told him, that like all the others, I was "harassing him". This is the answer I obtained from Smart: "Too much crack makes you short-sighted it seems. I guess the term, preliminary, are lost on him. Apart from that, he must be reading impaired to miss the posts about the bump mapping. Admin/Mod, if this gets out hand when am not around, please do the complimentary honors (the highest level). Thank you." Preliminary seems to be a word that Smart often has taken cover behind and it will be highly enjoyable seeing if ANY of his current and future projects will become more than just that. When I tried to send my second (or third) post it became obvious that the administrator (Smart himself?) had banned me. I was quite shocked at how the situation had developed and felt that I had to find out why this had happened to me. Later on while trying to find some info on the upcoming Elite 4 in the alt.fan.elite group, I ran across some spam posted by a certain Derek Smart. At last, could this be the answer to my questions? This Derek started thread was apparently about some perplexing fight between him and a guy called Louie. After reading the entire thread I realised how lucky I had been NOT being sued by Derek for criticising his game. With all the jail threats hanging in the air I felt quite relieved just being flamed and not having to spend the rest of my life in jail. After following Derek's thrash threads through many different news groups I came across a link to a very interesting and entertaining web site called Flame War follies. The unbelievable contents of this incredible site couldn't make me laugh more. I showed some of Smart's best quotes to my friends and they laughed as hard as I did. At last, I could see HOW I as a space sim fan and possible new fan could have recieved the Smartest of all greetings from the most supreme of all commanders. /Olle T Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
