0-Flame War Archives - This home directory contains a few other files that act as tour guides for different tours through this information that the reader may be amused with.
The home directory also contains 7 subdirectories.
1 What Is This Flame War All About (1About) - This directory contains posts that try to explain what the Flame War Follies are about and what the strange attraction is that draws people in.
2 Derekometry (1Derekometry) - Is the measurement of interesting derekology phenomenon. This directory contains 2 subdirectories and 2 files. I would like to direct your attention to the 2 particularly interesting files that Fthx researched for our viewing pleasure. FlameGraph is a file that contains a graph that depicts, by week, how many posts were made to the BC3K threads. FlameWeekTop100 gives a list of the top 100 posters (in a week) to BC3K threads. (Dan "Many Names" Brooks holds the top spot and four out of the five top spots!)
2.1 BC3K Held Hostage (1Hostage) - The posts in here are the very funny "Days held hostage" posts from Pat Lundrigan. These have just gotten better with age.
2.2 Posts Per Week (1PPW) - This is a very interesting postdoctoral study the esteemed Fthx, PhD in Derekology, did on BC3K threads in the strategic news group. It covers the major threads, the number of posts and the number of posts contributed by each person. The ReleaseWeek files are an analysis of BC3K threads during the early era Oct. 1996 through Jan. 1997. The Week files cover the modern era.
3 Derek History (1History) - is important because Mr. Smart has frequently shown a desire to rewrite history (i.e., claim that he warned people that BC3K was unplayable, claim that Take 2 paid him nothing). The information in this directory has proven invaluable when trying to correct these attempts at history revisions. This directory contains 4 subdirectories and a few history summary posts. Most notable is DereksAnthology.txt which is the most complete job I've seen that Derek has done explaining his view of the history of the flame war and by far the most complete defense he's ever attempted of the PhD fraud accusation. My version of flame war history is history.htm. There are also some Addendums to the history, a few are primarily for humor.
3.1 Before 1997 (1Pre1997) - contains posts from before 1997. I especially enjoy Mr. Smart's hype in November 1995 for when BC3K was due out in December 1995. For example, BC3K has "the most advanced surface terrain engine since Magic Carpet(tm)". This directory also contains the documentation for the infamous Mr. Smart versus the Coke machine battle.
3.2 Jan To Aug 1997 (2ToAug97) - contains posts from the first half of 1997. This directory is the prime source that documents the many fabrications concerning the manual and patch releases.
3.3 Post PhD Fraud (3Phraud) - contains posts dated August 1997 to the exposure of Derek's bankruptcy. The name of the directory is indicative of what many of the BC3K flame-fest threads are about during this period. This directory has some posts in it as well as 3 subdirectories.
3.3.1 Bashers For Justice (1Bash) - contains the information on Bill Huffman's trials and tribulations regarding Derek's attempts to use a lawyer in order to obfuscate and squelch the truth.
3.3.2 Fthx Posts (1Fthx) - contains posts that were made by Fthx. These posts in general are usually explaining the correct historical facts. These are just some of the posts that earned Fthx the title of Master Historian for Derekology.
3.3.3 Huffman Laughing Stock (1Lauf) - contains posts that I find funny. Due to the flame war warping my sense of humor, I don't expect others without similar warps to find them so funny.
3.4 Smart Is Bankrupt (4Bankrupt) - contains the more recent posts since the exposure of Mr. Smart's bankruptcy, May 1999 to the present.
4 Humor (1Humor) - This directory contains the most humorous posts and are held in the highest esteem by derekologist everywhere. Much of this humor will be lost unless you are familiar with Mr. Smart's posts archived in Famous Flames. There are 3 subdirectories in the Humor directory.
4.1 A BattleCruiser Named Desire (1ABCND) - This directory contains a play written by Pat Lundrigan. Note: for a much better presentation of this plus some other goodies go to http://www.geocities.com/dosferatu_pjl/ABCND.html (personal guarantee that it will be done by this weekend :-)
4.2 Aldus Troll (1Aldus) - This directory contains some of the posts from the initial mysterious appearance of Aldus Mayhem. Aldus joined the flame-fest during a very slow period in a most dramatic fashion and has been amusing the derekology community with his wit and wisdom ever since. note: under construction
4.3 BattleGrimCrusoire (1BGC) - This directory contains a story written by Kevin Allegood. It has even been awarded the coveted Allegood award. Read it and see why! (Keep in mind that riboflavin is good for you.)
5 Not So Smart Posts (1NotSmart) - This contains 7 directories with Derek Smart posts and posts of Derek Smart quotes.
5.1 PhD Fraud Anthology (1Anth) - contains posts by Derek Smart. It has his post from 3/16/97 where he tells a magazine editor to do his homework and look up Derek's dissertation, then from 8/9/97, which is the start of the PhD fraud flame war, through Derek Smart Fraud Day, 8/27/97. This is the exact same set of posts that Fthx collected together in his PhDFraudAnthology2.txt file and summarized in his PhDFraudAnthology.txt file.
5.2 PhDFraudAnthology2 (1Anth2) - Is a collection of Derek's posts since Derek Smart Fraud Day that seems to implicate him as a PhD fraud.
5.3 WorldExpertClaims (1Expert) - Posts where Mr. Smart claims he's an expert on various topics.
5.4 Famous Flames (1Flames) - Is a partial collection of Mr. Smart's most memorable flames and posts. Statements from this treasure of Mr. Smart's posts is the prime catalyst for much of the hilarious treasures in the Humor directory.
5.5 Forges Racist Email (1Forger) - Is a collection of posts that show that Mr. Smart forged racist email
5.6 CustomerService-PR (1PR) - This contains a collection of posts that exemplify the skills that Mr. Smart has in building public relations through his own unique style of interfacing with customers and potential customers. (Imagine Idi Amin on Usenet trying to drum up tourism in his country.)
5.7 Making Threats (1Threats) - Is a partial collection of Mr. Smart Posts where he is threatening others with dire consequences.
5.8 Famous Topics (1Topics) - Is a partial collection of Mr. Smart Posts on specific topics, e.g. Mensa, Novell Certificates
6 Testimony To Fraud (1PhrauD) - This contains posts by authorities or well-documented posts that disbelieve and dispute Derek's claims to a PhD or some fabrication about his defense of his fraudulent credentials.
7 Toady Watch (1Toady) - This Directory is dedicated to the Sycophant of a PhD Fraud, Dan Brooks, the poor defenseless 43 year old from Ballwin, MO. Many Names Dan has succeeded in establishing super powers of hypocrisy in the flame war and has earned himself a place of great shame and ridicule that rivals even that of his master.
