• Added a link on the front page to the hilarious Uncyclopedia article on Derek Smart.

2006-12-02

• Cleaned up some broken links and removed my opinion as to what made Mr. Smart's personality so unique. I added the following paragraph to the Introduction.
• Mr. Smart is very fond of telling lies especially about me and this website. Some favorite lies that he tells people is that he has previously had this site taken down for libel. This is a lie. Another favorite lie is that I have fabricated lies about him and maliciously modified Usenet postings that are here in the archives. These too are lies. If you ask Mr. Smart to provide evidence to substantiate his false accusations he'll probably tell you it's obvious or say everyone knows this, or he'll provide you so much information he knows that you will never read it all. What I used to do on-line was to say that if anyone can find one Usenet post here that I've maliciously edited or one lie here that I've told then I will happily remove this whole website and never put it up again. My offer still stands.

• CustomerService-PR It's that wonderful holiday time of year again. It begins with Derek-Smart-Says-F-You-Day. F_UDay2002.htm contains a collection of Derek's unique attempts at public relations over the past year where he uses the F word. A sad note, I noticed that the 2001 collection has been lost apparently during the directory name updates last year this delicious tidbit was lost.

• Xan managed to somehow crack the top level security of the Taco Palace and secure a copy of a promo cut scene clip of the BCM XP1 (eXpansion Pack). A link to this has been placed on the front page. Note that like most of the Derek Smart projects, XP1 has bit the dust.

• Humor Espen Berntsen earned his PhD in Derekology for his dissertation titled westernView.txt. Note that this also would have been good in the About directory but I think this might be Espen's first PhD in Derekology so I stuck it in the Humor directory.

2001-10-22

• Pre1997 added a post, FuturePrediction.txt found by PJL that catches Mr. Smart telling many stories about the release of BC3K that are very similar to the stories he tells about the BCM release. Of course the BC3K stories we know turned out to be false.
• 3PhrauD Mr. Smart discusses again, in SECforTake2.txt, the SEC filing by Take2 where Take2 told the SEC that Derek's company got some $600,000 from Take2. This seems to contradict Derek's statements that he never got a penny from Take2.
• Bankrupt BcmDemoReview.txt, BcmDemoReviews.txt are some reviews for the BCM demo. BcmReleaseStudy.txt covers many of the false statements that Mr. Smart has made regarding the expected release date for BCM and the 6 BCM demos. DelusionalParanoid.txt is Daktari!'s analysis into the possibility that Mr. Smart suffers from delusional paranoia. (I personally believe the conclusion is flawed but it's well researched and backed up with interesting statements made by Mr. Smart. Pool4Present.txt is a post by Mr. Smart claiming that he hasn't moved into his new house because he's waiting for them to finish building the pool. (Of course it's probably all lies, the address given by Mr. Smart hasn't been sold for many years according to public record.)
• Humor All entires into this archive directory earn the author a PhD in Derekology from the degree mill that can't be named or then people would find out that the degree is really just a joke.
  AG gets a PhD for DemoReview.txt.
  Huffman gets a PhD for Derekology51b.txt, this is a homework assignment for students taking Derekology 51.
  Ethel the Ardvaark gets a PhD for LyricsTomorrow.txt. BCM lyrics given to Little Orphan Annie's Tomorrow song.
  Chris Mc gets a PhD for LyricsMiddleAgedFrankenstein.txt. Derek is a Middle Aged Frankenstein.
  Xan gets a PhD for MoneyCanBuy.txt
  bp gets a PhD for OneWeekBeforeBcmShips.txt. (Note that I think this may be bp's first entry. He has been discriminated against in the past because I was reluctant to give out PhD's in Derekology for one liners. However, now that it is known that the degree mill that can't be named is a degree mill that can't be named instead of a renowed [sic] accredited university that can't be named it doesn't need to take as much effort to earn the PhD in Derekology. Also if it's funny then it's funny even if it's short.)

  Here's a collection of some of the delightful "Box" posts that made people laugh because after the tremendous Derek hype for BC3K an empty box was sent out to the software stores and Derek was even bragging about that. TheBoxPart1.txt 
  PJL gets four more PhD's for TopTenGameEngines.txt, TopTenPasswords.txt (after someone guessed Derek's password correctly),  TopTenTicketSeller.txt, and UpAndAtom.txt
• ABCND Acts 5, 6, & 7 of a Battlecruiser Named Desire, thanks PJL! Stay tuned for the final act when BCM is released.
• Expert This is a new directory. it is in the NotSmart directory and contains hilarious posts by Mr. Smart where he's claiming to be a world expert and is really demonstrating his incompetence. It contains posts where he claims that rocks and wood can have AI in his game when what he's really talking about is more normally called simulating rocks and wood. There's also posts on some of the hilarious ideas about the solar system mapping of planets in the solar system.
• FamousFlames The Larch gives us examples of Derek Smart's assholery, reasonsForAssholery.txt. A couple of contributions by the "Quote Fairy" that start of with the words QuoteFairy.
• CustomerService-PR Three great PR posts by Derek are archived, CareLessIfUDie.txt, opulenceClaimed.txt, and prolificPosterSpeaks.txt.
• MakingThreats Nine delicious threats by Derek Smart added, they're the nine most recent for the year 2001. Daktari! also did two summaries done of Derek Smart threats, Asummary1.htm and Asummary2.htm. Finally Mr. Smart actually wrote a post explaining what his allegations are!!!! He's made many threats but never before really listed out the actual accusations. He did this and this contains my response to his bogus and ridiculous allegations, AResponseToThreats.txt.
• ToadyWatch Two posts by Hypocrite Dan, ApologyAndThreatDaktari.txt and BigThreat.txt. Then a post by me explaining why Amoral Dan broke his pledge to never badger me again, WhyBrokePledge.txt.

• The Flame War Follies archives got a face lift. This delicate operation was undertaken to shorten the URL names. This will make it much easier to reference and name links. The person that did the work was a Ph.D. candidate in Derekology from the degree mill that can't be named or then it might be obvious that it's a fake. The person that did this work is a confirmed lurker that is so wise he doesn't wish his name to be made public. As he wishes, he'll remain anonymous but he'll still have a PhD in Derekology bestowed on him for his great contribution to furthering the knowledge of Derekology. (All this anonymous talk will also make Mr. Smart even more paranoid, I'm sure.)

• Before1997 Mr. Smart had always denied that the return rate for BC3K was anywhere above 50%. There've been posts by folks that worked at stores at the time that have claimed different. Here's one in file ReturnRate90.txt. SalesAnalysisAtLeast70ReturnRate.txt here someone using the Take 2 financial statements shows that Derek is lying, BC3K sold less than 30,000 units and had to have a return rate of at least 70%.
• About BC3K Computer Game On the page that talks about BC3K the computer game I added a link to a site that declared BC3K the second worst game in history.
• ForgesRacistEmail At one point Derek was trying out the lie that he had not been the one to post the forged email. He was trying to get people to think that it was an imposter Derek Smart. This post debunks that lie because it clearly shows that Derek placed information on his own website regarding the forgery. This post is in the Forgery17 file.
• Humor Chester Marshall gets another PhD in Derekology for his lyrics to the song "Will the Real Slim Shady Please Standup". TwasTheNightBeforeChristmas this was a wonderful gem that was written by BaZ before the archives were started.
• FamousFlames I wrote a post that tried to list all the stupid things I could remember that Derek had done, StupidOccurences.txt.

• MakingThreats 9 new entries, same old kind of stuff - threats of being sued and he doesn't care if he loses as long as he makes others pay, bashes gays, many other slurs and insults leveled at people because they don't appreciate Mr. Smart's lies and insults. One very special one isn't put in with the chronological posts because it's extra special. Derek tried to get another person fired simply because Derek posted some screen shots and asked for comments. Todd responded and is a professional graphic artist. He made some very professional suggestions and Derek tried to get him fired. The file is TriesToGetToddFired.txt.
• Humor Two ABC humorous posts, Congratulations to Chester Marshall and Vile on earning your PhD in Derekology for this. (Hay they did more for their PhD than Derek did for his.) Bill Gosset earned his PhD Derekology for this gem he posted on alt.education.distance and I reposted on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.space-sim, AlmaMaterFMU.txt. Vile earned another PhD in Derekology for the Apple series of posts, Apple1.txt, Apple2.txt, and Apple3.txt. Pat Lundrigan, Sardaukar, and Andy Bain get Phd's in Derekology for the BCM-OS.txt series of posts. I did a most wonderful BetweenTheLinesFecalphiliac.txt. Max Hak gets a PhD in Derekology for BSTEreadme.txt. Gary Hladik gets a PhD in Derekology for CoveredGarage.txt. Wilf gets a PhD in Derekology for GetFreePhD.txt.
• CustomerService-PR In this post by Derek he finally admits that BC3K 2.0 was really just a re-release of BC3K 1.0, Admits20WasReRelease.txt. Previously Mr. Smart was claiming that it was a full fledged new release. quotesa0-06.txt contains choice quotes made by Derek in the first half of 2000.
• FamousFlames I'm giving RHarris a PhD in Derekology for documenting the famous insult by Mr. Smart where he belittles all game artists and says they're just farmhands, ArtistsAreFarmHands1.txt and ArtistsAreFarmHands2.txt. Added a delightful study by Spridle who has a new PhD in Derekology, JustWaitAndWait.txt.
• SmartIsBankrupt Derek kept insisting that BC3K outsold all the AAA titles of the day. He made the mistake of giving some specific numbers and mentioning specific title and of course it turns out he was probably BSing, BC3KSalesAnalysis.txt. I added a post in here by Dr. John Bear talking about the oldest known Degree Mill, DrBearOldestPhony.txt

00-07-28 - Link added on the front page to a absolutely hilarious take off of the TV show Survivors. There's a bunch of game authors on an island and the last one gets a billion dollars. Our own favorite kook shows up on day 9.

Another new entry Derek Smart, yes you heard that right. Derek has not yet earned his PhD in Derekology. He has one now and can be proud doubly.
